How to Use Compost Bins and Green Yard Waste Carts

Now that many of us are clearing out our garden plots of summer vegetable plants, here are some guidelines to follow in disposing of old plant growth:

Green Yard Waste Carts by the Gate:
These carts are for old vegetables you have taken off of your plants. You can put plant parts in there as well, but the plants need to be cut into 6-inch pieces. Do not put whole plants or large sections of plants into the yard waste cart. That fills up the carts too quickly. It is better to put plant parts into the wooden compost bins or to compost them inside your own plot.

Compost Bins:
The wooden compost bins are to be used for plant parts that are ready for the grinder. The cuttings can be somewhat larger than those in the green yard waste carts.
No- Dirst, string, plastic ties, rotting vegetables, thick roots, etc.
Please remove vegetables from the plants to put in the green yard waste cart that has been placed at the end of the compost bins in order to keep pests out of the compost bins and garden plots.
Thick roots need to be cut away from your plants and also put in the green yard waste cart. They are too big for the grinder.
